AP2224 WATER SECURITY: PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEERING – SPECIALIZING IN HYROLOGICAL AND HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING   

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

The works, as described, are part of the Disaster Management programme for Goukou River.

Location of this project:

• 17km Northwest of Riversdale, Western Cape (Lat: -34.02110923739782| Long: 21.407839008413998)

Background and context:

• The issue at hand is that uncompleted gabion erosion stabilization structure in the Goukou River is causing problematic results in the river system. The structure instead of preventing erosion is causing more erosion problems over and above current erosion taking place.
• A new gabion erosion stabilization structure will need to be designed as a long-term solution.
• The work entails doing a survey in a Palmiet wetland.
• Please refer to the Water Research Commission publication “The development of a comprehensive manual for river rehabilitation in South Africa” for the standard for type of remediation seen as suitable removal by erosion – leading to additional issues.
